Luke has done many different things in his life before becoming a member of the tattoo industry. After high school, he joined the Marine corps where he spent the next 4 years serving his country. In the years following he dabbling in various professions such as warehousing and sales, amongst some time in college working toward a business degree, Luke found himself using his artistic ability to try his hand at tattooing. Although he never pictured himself making a living from it, he was continually getting better while still pursuing other careers.
During that time, he became involved in a Rotary club of which he spent time as the club President and is still a member today. With a newfound passion for helping others, he spent time, traveling to countries like India, Nicaragua, and Brazil.
Eventually, Luke was cast on the Discovery Channel’s TV show, Naked and Afraid. Upon returning from a successful challenge, he opened his own Tattoo shop in Temecula, CA called Executive Ink. He ran the appointment-only shop as the owner, artist for 3 years before stumbling across the opportunity to buy Essential Ink in 2017. Now he enjoys keeping the extraordinary reputation alive that Midori and Edward had created for the shop before him.
Midori Gates, born and raised in Southern California has been involved in one form of art or another since was old enough to hold a crayon. Throughout the years, Midori went on to pursue a design degree at a prestigious college of the arts in Los Angeles, CA.
Midori spent over a decade working as a graphic designer after college for a small firm in Riverside and after realizing she wasn’t meeting her potential, decided to venture off into other more free and creative forms of art.
She was approached by organizers for the RAWartist organization, Riverside branch, where she made her debut as an Accessory designer of Eco-friendly proportion. Her design line, Haute&Knotty was launched and was well-received by all who love Mother Earth. She was able to transform recycled bicycle innertubes and energy drink cans into fun and unique works of art. Her drive to educate the public on the importance of recycling and reducing our footprint gained her the exposure needed to be nominated for Designer of the Year for the city of Riverside, 2012.
Although she is an accomplished artist, accessory designer, and entrepreneur she has decided to make her debut here at Essential Ink as our body modification expert. She specializes in most styles of body adornment (eyebrow to navel) and using her years of design training, can offer you a personal and unique piercing experience that is bar-none.
Although she has successfully completed her apprenticeship, Midori continues to strive toward excellence by continuing her education on the latest techniques, jewelry requirements and specifications, sterilization, human anatomy/health/aftercare, and is working towards her certification with the Association of Professional Piercers.
If you are looking for a simple piercing or something a little more edgy that will send your mom into a tailspin, then stop by our shop for a friendly, sterile, and beautiful piercing experience.

Lucy has been an artist her whole life. She decided in 2016, after dabbling in tattooing for over a year, to quit her full-time job, and pursue an apprenticeship under Luke when he was at Executive Ink.
In 2017, shortly after Luke purchased Essential Ink, she was given the title of “Tattoo Artist” by her mentor. She now strives at color pieces with thick line work but is definitely versatile. She’s excited to build her portfolio one awesome piece at a time, so come check her out.
